The Jared Flood trunk show is here, and Jared is not far behind! This Friday, November 20, the shop will be open late – 11am-8pm – for a book signing and reception to welcome Jared to Santa Barbara. In addition to the meet and greet, Jared will be drawing the winner of our two year anniversary raffle. This is the last chance to get your name in the running! For $5 that goes entirely to charity, enter to win three fabulous Offhand Designs Bags valued at over $400!
Jared’s classes are almost full, but there are a couple spots left for some lucky people! Call the shop ASAP to inquire about availability and be sure you get your name on the waiting lists in case of last-minute cancellations. If you don’t make it in to one of the weekend classes, the shop will be open Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm for knitting and browsing, and everyone is welcome to stop by.
A beautiful blend of wool and alpaca, this tweedy yarn will knit up into a sophisticated sweater or any number of great accessories. It comes in rich colors with contrasting flecks knitting up into a fun and interesting fabric. Make Jared’s Stilwell Sweater or Huron Sweater with this yarn.
A very soft blend of extrafine merino and cashmere, this bulky yarn is still lightweight enough for bigger projects that will knit up very quickly. Make Jared’s Rockaway Sweater or Quincy Hat with this yarn.
A blend of wool, baby alpaca and angora, this yarn knits up with a soft hand, and only gets softer after the angora blooms. Available in vibrant colors, it’s great for Fair Isle knitting. Make Jared’s Beaumont Hat with this yarn.

I have particular love for knitting lace garments in heavier weight wools than is traditionally the case. I find that, not only does this pairing of yarn and technique create beautiful and unique pieces of knitwear, but serves as a wonderful learning tool for beginning lace knitters. In this course we will be talking about the basics of lace and trying our hand at making some of our own with larger needles and heavier yarn. Topics covered include how to read a chart, yarn overs and directional decreasing, planning lace projects, getting ‘gauge’, reading your fabric, and the most important and magical part of lace knitting: blocking.
