Crochet 101

Learn how to work a number of crochet stitches from slip stitches to triple crochet while following a quick and easy bowl pattern. You will also be learning how to work flat and in the round. These are all great skills that will be useful in making larger crocheted objects as well as embellishing knitted garments!

It’s in the bag! Create a fabulous one-of-a-kind bag using a creative knitting technique that frees you from patterns, straight rows and gauges. If you know how to cast-on and bind-off you are on your way. Using a knit, bind-off and pick-up technique your knitting can go in new directions. Combine your favorite colors, textures and fibers to reveal your wild side and walk away with an original art bag.

Socks 101

Using a worsted weight yarn, and a basic sock pattern you will embark down the journey of creating your first handknit sock. We will be working in the round on double pointed needles, making short rows and picking up stitches, all wonderful techniques to be used for more socks or in other knitted garments.

Things you'll need: 1 Skein Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted (2 for feet larger than Women's size 10), and a set of US #6 DPNs (or needles to obtain gauge)

Shibui Baby Pullover

Working from the Shibui Baby book, get helpful tips from the designer herself on knitting up this adorable baby pullover. It is worked in the round with cute buttons at the shoulders that will help get this sweater over a baby’s big head Skill Level: Intermediate.

Things you'll need: A copy of the Shibui Baby book, 2-3 skeins of Shibui Sock, US #2 circular needle 16" and US #2 dpns

Advanced Lace (Torreyana Shawl)

Working from the Torreyana Shawl pattern, you will learn stitches unique to Estonian Lace. This shawl begins with Judy’s Magic Cast on and features cables and optional beads.

Things you'll need: A printed copy of the Torreyana Shawl pattern, 2 US #4 circular needles 32" or longer, 450 yds of lace weight yarn, approximately 250 beads (optional), crochet hook small enough to fit through hole in beads (optional), stitch markers

Fixing Mistakes

Learn to find mistakes in your knitting sooner, and fix them without ripping back. Either bring in a project that has mistakes you'd like to learn to fix or practice fixing common mistakes on a swatch.

Things you'll need: An unfinished project with mistakes you'd like to learn to fix or a 5-6" square swatch in stockinette stitch, seed stitch or a ribbed stitch in a worsted weight, light colored yarn.

Shibui Baby Booties/Bonnet

Felting for Knitters: Wet Wool Methods

This simple method for wet felting wool is perfect for the person who wants to add another dimension to their knit and crochet work. No special equipment is needed. It’s easy and opens up a new world of possibilities. You will learn a variety of ways to incorporate felted pieces into your next project.

Beginning Lace

Don't let knitting lace intimidate you anymore. In this class, you will learn to work from a knitting chart and learn to visualize your knitting based on that chart. We will be making the Springtime Bandit shawl by Kate Gagnon Osborne.

Things you'll need: 4 skeins of The Fibre Co. Terra or 2 skeins Madelinetosh Pashmina, 40" US #9 circular needle, 4 Stitch Markers

Colorwork Vest

You will be making the Ivy League Vest by Eunny Jang. Through this project, we will explore different colorwork techniques, including steeking (cutting!) your work.

Things you'll need: A copy of the pattern, 6 different colors of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift and needles to obtain gauge. Ribbing should be completed before first class.

Creative Crochet
